Safe and Supportive Placements for Children and Young People
At Narang Bir-rong, we believe that wherever it is safe and possible, children belong with their families. Restoration is the process of supporting families so children and young people can return home, surrounded by love, stability and cultural connection.
What is Restoration?
Restoration happens when children in care are able to return to their parents or family after safety concerns have been resolved. It is about healing relationships, strengthening parenting capacity, and ensuring children grow up in a safe, nurturing environment, honouring their cultural identity.
Our Approach
Restoration is not a quick fix, it is a careful and considered journey. At Narang Bir-rong, we walk alongside families, children and carers with respect and patience, focusing on:
Safety first
ensuring children’s well-being is always at the centre of decisions.
Family strengths
recognising what families do well and building on those abilities.
Practical support
helping parents learn strategies to manage daily routines, responsibilities and challenges.
Healing and guidance
connecting families with therapeutic services to address past difficulties and rebuild trust.
Culture and belonging
ensuring children stay connected to their identity, kinship, community and Country.
How We Support Families
Narang Bir-rong works closely with families to create a personalised plan for restoration. This can include:
- Parenting education and coaching.
- Support to establish safe and stable housing.
- Assistance with health, well-being and counselling needs.
- Practical help with routines, budgeting and home management.
- Cultural mentoring and connection to Elders for guidance and support.
- Regular reviews and goal-setting to track progress and celebrate achievements.
The Benefits of Restoration
When restoration works well, children and families benefit in many ways:
Stronger, healthier relationships.
Greater stability and security within the home.
A deeper sense of cultural identity and belonging.
Opportunities for long-term growth, healing and resilience.
Our Commitment
We know the path to restoration can be challenging. Families may face setbacks, and progress often takes time. But at Narang Bir-rong, we believe in families’ capacity to heal and rebuild. With the right supports in place, restoration allows children to grow up surrounded by the love of family and the strength of culture.
